Progress - Week of October 5

We gotta be getting close…seriously. The attic and fourth floor have had final coats of paint applied and we are in finishing mode on those floors…installing lighting fixtures, faceplates, light/dimmer switches, plumbing fixtures, and door hardware.
Lighting fixture in the attic….

Door hardware on the fourth floor…

The third floor…final coat of paint in the process of being applied (will be done this week). Master bathroom is grouted and awaiting installation of countertop for the vanity.

Parlor floor….the parlor (living room) and kitchen/dining room floors have been stained and have had 1 or 2 coats of poly applied. Moreover, the marble entryway floor is down and the tin ceiling in the kitchen is installed (just need to finish it off with the tin cove mouldings). First coats of paint are needed for the hallway which should happen this week. Also, the stair case between the 2nd and 3rd floor needs to be stained and sealed.

No shots of the rental although things are moving down stairs.

Short posting this week and I think the postings will continue to be short as all we want to do at this point is show a week’s worth of progress. Since it is becoming increasingly difficult to show where things are changing (that’s a good sign by the way), I think we’ll leave the major photo montage until the end when the work on the main house is done. We will of course still document big items like the installation of the appliances, countertops, hardware, and lighting as those things happen.

Progress - Week of September 28

Good progress this week (although as always it is never fast enough...so much so that we've had to extend our current lease into November and are planning for an early to mid November move-in).

No photos of the attic...2 coats of poly are down and the space is waiting for final coat of paint, final coat of poly and installation of finish materials (lighting fixtures, electric receipticles and faceplate covers, and light switches and faceplate covers).

4th floor...same status as the attic althought here are some photos of Tyler's room.

Here's the current status of Gabriella's room....

This is a shot of the laundry room.  The item to notice here is the HVAC equipment in the background through the window.  That mother is HUGE!

3rd Floor...stained and one coat of poly.  I'd say we are extremely pleased with the stain color on this floor.  Below are a few shots of the library.

And the master bedroom...

The deck outside the master bedroom was installed...

The master bathroom...the bench and tiling in the shower were completed.

Onto the parlor floor.  The spaces here are coming together although there is still significant work to be completed.  Below, the tiling and borders for the entryway has just commenced.

Kitchen/dining room floor is sanded and prepared for staining (which it was about 3 hours after these photos were taken)

Tin ceiling is starting to make an appearance.

Replacement medallion in the dining room...really looks good and the proportions are excellent.

Shot of the dining room (and the parlor beyond that) from the kitchen...

No photos of the rental on the ground floor this week but rest assured that even though the debris was hauled off on Wednesday it still looks like a disaster area since this is the only staging area left for the crews.

Lastly, some shots of the cellar which hasn't gotten any mention or photos until now.  The space has always been something of an tertiary concern for us.  While its primary purpose is to house the non-air conditioning mechanical equipment, there is a bunch of interesting features and details in that part of the house which at some point we may take some time and money to use.

On Saturday, a cement truck arrived and we poured a 3" slab of concrete on the front half of that floor.  We believe that since the house was constructed 180 years ago, the area had always been unfinished including a dirt floor.  After we closed on the house and spent some time exploring, there were a ton of interesting artifacts discovered including pieces of coal (formerly used as the heating fuel for the house before it was converted to oil [and then converted to gas]) and old Coca Cola bottles as well as local fieldstone used as the foundation wall in the back.

This coming week...

1. Finish the sheetrock for the rental
2. Second coat of poly for the 3rd floor
3. Sanding and staining of the parlor area
4. Progress on the entryway hallway
5. Maybe countertops?
